The festive season at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort began with a moment of quiet wonder as the resort unveiled its Segara Gunung-inspired Christmas tree during an intimate lighting ceremony held in the Rotunda Lobby in early December 2025. This year marked a meaningful first for the resort, introducing a creative collaboration with Balinese artist Marmar Herayukti, joined by interpretative dance collective Naluri Manca, to present a celebration that felt deeply rooted in culture, nature, and reflection.

Drawing from the Balinese philosophical concept of Segara Gunung – the harmony between sea and mountain – the Christmas tree was conceived as more than a decorative centrepiece. Through organic forms and symbolic elements, Marmar Herayukti translated this worldview into a visual narrative that speaks of balance, gratitude, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world. The concept resonated seamlessly with the spirit of Christmas, creating a thoughtful dialogue between tradition, spirituality, and contemporary expression.

The evening unfolded gently, beginning with light hors d’oeuvres before welcoming remarks from Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort’s General Manager, Jean-Pierre Joncas. As the lights dimmed, Naluri Manca took the space with a 1-minute performance led by Ida Bagus Eka Arista, known as Gus Eka. Through movement and rhythm, the dancers offered a living interpretation of Segara Gunung – an artistic journey that guided the audience through stories of origin, balance, and evolution, grounded in Balinese philosophy yet presented with a modern sensibility.

The ceremony reached its quiet crescendo as Marmar Herayukti and Jean-Pierre Joncas came together to light the Christmas tree, illuminating the Rotunda Lobby in a soft glow. The moment felt ceremonial rather than grand, inviting guests to pause and absorb the atmosphere as light filled the space and the festive season officially began.

This collaboration reflects Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort’s ongoing commitment to celebrating local artistry while blending it with the brand’s signature French elegance. Through the Segara Gunung Christmas tree, the resort offers not just a festive display, but a reflective experience – one that honours Bali’s cultural philosophy and reminds guests of the shared values of gratitude, harmony, and connection that define both the holiday season and island life itself.
