As Nyepi approaches, Bali’s energy shifts in a way that is hard to replicate anywhere else. Streets quiet, lights soften, and the island’s spiritual New Year becomes a shared pause. This March, Jumeirah Bali is inviting guests into that rhythm with the Nyepi Serene Retreat, a three-day cultural immersion running from 18 to 20 March 2026, with stays available until 21 March 2026.

The journey begins on Pengerupukan Day (18 March), when Bali prepares for Nyepi through ritual and artistic expression. Jumeirah Bali will host a Mecaru purification ceremony at 4:30 PM at Trowulan, followed by an evening of traditional performances including the Kecak Dance, Tedung Dance, and Rangda Dance, building toward the ogoh-ogoh parade. For this year’s celebration, the resort is collaborating with artists from Ungasan village to create a bespoke ogoh-ogoh inspired by Gajah Mada Bhutakala, crafted primarily from bamboo in line with sustainability practices.

On Nyepi Day (19 March), the retreat turns inward as the island observes Catur Brata Penyepian, centered on stillness, balance, and reflection. Guests are encouraged to move slowly within their villa, choosing quiet reading, meditation, or simply taking in the calm that settles over the coastline. Families can also explore the tradition through Peafowl Kids Club, with ogoh-ogoh crafts, offering-making, and storytelling sessions.

The retreat closes on Ngembak Geni (20 March), when the island reconnects. At Jumeirah Bali, guests can join a Ngembak purification ritual, offering a grounded way to welcome the new year ahead.
