Alaya Suites Brings Contemporary Living to Bali’s Cultural Heart
In Ubud, where daily life unfolds between rice fields, artisan workshops, yoga studios, and family compounds, hospitality has always been closely tied to a sense of place. Soon, a new property will join the landscape, offering a fresh interpretation of contemporary Balinese living while remaining deeply rooted in the island’s cultural identity.
Set to open in early 2026, Alaya Suites marks the latest addition to the Alaya Hotels & Resorts collection. Located in Pengosekan, one of Ubud’s most creative neighbourhoods, the new sanctuary places guests within walking distance of galleries, local craft stores, wellness spaces, and some of the area's most beloved dining destinations.
Rather than simply creating another luxury stay, the team behind Alaya Suites has focused on capturing the spirit of Ubud itself. Designed by Ubud-based architectural firm DDAP, the property draws inspiration from Catus Patha, the Balinese concept of a sacred crossroads where paths, people, and possibilities converge. The result is a space that reflects the rhythm of village life while embracing a contemporary aesthetic.
Throughout the property, subtle references to Balinese culture appear in thoughtful ways. Cloud motifs commonly found in traditional Wayang artworks become a recurring design language, symbolising the connection between earth and sky. Warm earthy palettes, natural stone, timber, and handcrafted details create interiors that feel both elegant and familiar. Guests will also discover locally crafted touches, from pottery by Gaya and banana paper lamps to lino-cut artworks by Balinese artist Septa Adi, reinforcing the property's connection to the island's creative community.
The retreat will feature 45 suites and six private villas, each designed to balance comfort, artistry, and a strong sense of place. Beyond the accommodations, Alaya Suites aims to become a destination in its own right. Dining options include Carbón, a restaurant inspired by the vibrant flavours of Mexico and Peru, alongside Baker Butcher Barista, an all-day venue serving coffee, pastries, and casual fare from morning through evening.
Wellness remains an integral part of the experience through DaLa Spa, Alaya's signature wellness concept. Treatments draw inspiration from Indonesian healing traditions and locally sourced ingredients, including North Bali sea salt, Balinese Mansur rice, and premium arak Bali.
As Ubud continues to evolve, Alaya Suites arrives as a reflection of what many travellers seek today: meaningful design, cultural connection, and spaces that feel less like a hotel and more like a home.
